The meetings at HindSite are an example of this ?work hard, play hard? ethic. Monthly lunch meetings provided by Crary are held for the employees to reconnect and update each other on what they are working on. It is also a time for questions or issues to be brought up. Crary encourages this from all his employees. ?I like to know what they think. These guys talk to our customers every day so it?s important we take time to listen to one another and come to agreements and understandings.? There are also after-hour meetings, dubbed ?pizza and beer? meetings. The staff stays late to work on different projects, and Crary provides the refreshments to make the late hours easier.
HindSite?s ?work hard, play hard? comes through in other aspects of the company as well. The ping pong table is a time to play hard on breaks - they even have tournaments! Employees are allowed to dress casually at the office as long as they do not have any meetings that day. Crary even agreed to have a ?Bring Your Pet to Work Day,? so employees could have some comforting friends with them during the slow season.
?The key is to keep the employees wanting to come back. They have to like the job they do and like the environment they are in. You just have to find that balance, which I think we have achieved.?
